Private credit defaults fell for a second quarter. The fall came from the largest borrowers.
Proskauer's private credit default index fell to 2.41 percent in the third quarter of 2026, its second decline in a row. The fall came from borrowers with $50 million or more of EBITDA. Below $25 million the rate rose, and the band between them has been the highest for five quarters.

A listed lender added no new borrowers for a quarter, then agreed to be sold for 85 percent of its book. Its loans go with it.
A listed private credit fund that added no new borrowers in the second quarter agreed on 27 October to be sold for 85 percent of its own book value. Until closing, most new lending to its borrowers above $5 million needs the buyer's consent. For a borrower, the loan goes with the lender.

As of October 2026
The largest buyer in the market put less money to work for a third straight quarter, and its unspent capital set another record.
Blackstone deployed $30.1 billion in the third quarter of 2026, down from $42.2 billion at the end of 2025, while dry powder reached $228.9 billion and realizations outran deployment again. For an owner planning a sale or a refinancing, the buyer is slower, not poorer.
